NRHM Additionalities

Focus of NRHM is to strengthen primary health care through grass root level public health interventions based on community ownership. The duration of NRHM is seven years (2005-2012). It seeks to provide effective health care to the entire rural population in the country with special focus on 18 states that have weak public health indicators.


  • Reduce IMR 44 (Infant Mortality rate) to 30 per 1000 by 2012

  • Reduce MMR 315 (Maternal mortality rate) to 100 per lakh by 2012

  • Reduce TFR (Total fertility rate) from present 2.55 (DLHS III) to 2.1 by 2012

  • Increase awareness about HIV/AIDS.

  • Availability of Integrated Universal Primary Health Care

  • Integration of AYUSH

  • Increase utilization of FRUs

  • Placement of ASHA volunteer at village level
